I love the focus on Material Engineering Ian has brought to this year's shot show.

A surgical equipment rep brought some of this material into our office about 12 years ago. In this case it was being marketed as "trabecular metal", in that is somewhat mimics the inner trabecular pattern of "spongy" cancellous bone and allows good ingrowth for the retention of implanted prosthetics. I begged the rep to get me a larger sample because I immediately thought using a bored though cylinder of the stuff as a suppressor monocore. It's cool to see it happen for real.

Pretty neat. I've been doing that over a decade with a DMLS machine and titanium at work making medical implants. The "sponge" in implants allow the bone to grow into the pores

3D printing really opened a lot of possibilities for all those parts with intricate designs, like silencers or chemical reactors.
