In this video PGA Pro Rick Shiels challenges PGA PRO Matt Fryer to a match at Townley Golf Club using ONLY a Titleist U500 one iron that has just 16° of loft. The one iron is regarded as the HARDEST golf club in the world to use. Players struggle hitting one irons due the fact they have very little loft. If you slice or hook your driver, shank or top your irons or simply duff your golf shots then a one iron would be near impossible to use.

Even the best players in the world like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day do not use one irons in their whats in the bags.

See what Rick Shiels can shoot using just a 1 iron, Rick will have to use a one iron to chip with, putt with and even hit challenging bunker shots with. Rick Shiels could really find some awful situations to use the one iron. Rick Shiels and Matt Fryer also use the one iron to play a 909 yard par 8 hole they made up.

True story: my grandad gave me a bunch of clubs when I first started playing golf a few months ago. There wasn’t a putter so I assumed the 1 iron was the putter as it had a pretty flat face.

I wonder which the optimum single club would be for most? I think I'd favour the 7 despite the distance loss over a 5 or 6 iron.
