Not hard to find the fruit it’s just that most non native fruits and food in general are heavily regulated in America. Ackee grows wildly in Jamaica and I’d assume most other Caribbean islands.

Actually canning it is for presentation and transport. Ackee can be eaten raw and made into punches as well. Not so risky nor rare in Jamaica
