I've been addicted to this song ever since it came out. For the lyrics, the way i'm interpreting it is that she's saying from someone's perspective you are always 'the villain'. We tend to be more sympathetic of our own actions, we're the protagonist of our own stories and other people are the antagonists so she's saying to remember that we shouldn't assume we aren't villains in someone else's story.

In the lyrics, she called herself the villain but also the audience. There was a line that went "The person you love the most could be a dog to someone else" and another one going "The person you hate the most is someone's beloved child". In my opinion, the lyrics could be read as pointing out that everyone is grey or at least that we should view them as such. Yes, they might be the villain in our story but maybe they are the hero in their parent's stories. Plus after the "I'm a villain" she always goes "What made you think otherwise?", which can be read as stating that there's nothing that shows that she's a villain even if she is. She could look like the kindest person in the world despite being the villain in their story. The same goes for after "You're a villain, what makes you think otherwise?" and "The villain you failed to notice breathes within you" which basically points out that someone could think they are innocent even if they aren't.
Plus the imaginary in the music video. She's baking pastries, which look tasty and everyone relates to "sweet" but she adds indigents that are spicy or don't belong in there. Which sums it up pretty well. Also, note the line, "Good easily fades away" which says it all. Even if there's a villain or a hero, they can play the opposite role depending on which perspective. Plus in the video after signing, "Are you good, are you bad" she's crossing out both boxes, which is just a way of saying everyone is both. Plus this playful tone of singing could be seen as a mocking tone when coming from a "villain". The song, to me at least, feels like a commentary on how it seems pointless to question who is the villain or the hero in general or to deny that you aren't a "villain" because everyone is very well capable of being both (and will show each of both sides depending on who they're facing). Uhh, this has gotten long. I'm not really good at analyzing or anything? I just really love this song.
Your reactions are always really good! Thank you for sharing them with us and I hope you have a good day!

Yeahhh! I took the lyrics and video to mean that there are no truly good or bad people (the shades of gray), but that everyone has a little bit of both. She's saying we're all villains in someone else's story. I think it's more a commentary on perspective than it is on moral alignment. 🙂

You've probably heard her song "Colors", it became a viral thing not too long ago.

I think this song is about the paradoxical nature of how people are often either demonized or made out to be saints, while truth be told, everyone has both of those things within them. She's kinda embracing the dark side of herself here, even if it's not so much in pursuit of being evil, but more about just doing things no matter what other people say. One man's hero is a villain in someone else's eyes, that kinda deal. It's just a matter of perspective, and the narrator is often unreliable.

The horns are probably actually inspired by Angelina Jolie's "Maleficent" because Stella Jang really likes Disney (try reacting to her "Le Festine" cover). The song feels french, at least for me, and there are some french inspired parts in the MV because she used to study in France.

Honestly her discography is flawless like I'm not the type to listen to jazzy/chill/minimalist songs because I'm basic and like loud bubblegum mainstream kpop songs like that but idk why there is something about Stella's songs that are just so honest??I can't quite describe them. Like they feels so transparent and in a way not Kpop? they have a lot of identity to them that I feel like is only unique to Stella Jang.

Fun Fact: She knows a lot about french culture as she spent half of her life linving in France ! Spent around ten years in France. (So yeah she also fluent in it)

8:06 was actually a reference to "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" posters. It is a quite popular movie in South Korea, I guess. If you haven't watched the movie, the movie is about a girl, who was an "angel" but turn out to be a "devil". It matches the whole story of the music video and the song.

I actually thought that the message was pretty straightforward... morals are about perspective. Just because you think that you’re good and someone else is bad doesn’t mean that they think you’re good.

I really love this song 🥰 Considering she doesn't only proclaim that she is a villain, but that we are all villains, i think that she means that depending on 'the eye of the beholder' we can be angels and villains at the same time. And that's what makes us gray. You are probably the villain in someone else's story so it's subjective.

About the thing you didn't understand in the lyrics: when she says she's the villain, it doesn't mean she's saying she's the "black", it's more of a criticism towards people who think that someone has to be either good or bad, so if she's not perfectly good, then automatically she'd be bad. So, basically, she's saying that since no one's always good, then everyone in the world would be a "bad guy" or a villain, and that people seem to ignore the fact that everyone's morally gray and so everyone has both, even if it comes in many "shades".

Basically the lyrics explain that no one is entirely evil or entirely good. We always try to hide our 'bad' sides, pretending we are the nicest person, however she accepts that evil side saying 'Im a villain' . She also knows that everyone else is slightly bad in some degree, hence the 'You're a villain, all villains...'.
