UPDATE: The ban on giving puberty blockers to under-18s questioning their gender identify is to be made permanent, Health Secretary Wes Streeting has announced on December 12th, 2024.

Streeting isn’t an ally for the full LGBTQ+ rainbow and has upheld the Tories’ ban on puberty blockers being prescribed to trans and non-binary young people.

Friendly reminder that your marginalized identity doesn’t absolve you of discrimination, regardless of which identity you belong to and which you are being prejudiced towards.
It is also worth noting that HRT often gets banned for trans and GQ people but are often forced on intersex children and babies

Yay my rights to healthcare are getting decided by people who don’t understand nor care about me. As a young trans person it feels wrong to have my rights to healthcare decided by people who know little to nothing about me, maybe if they actually talked to the people who these laws are going to effect then they could understand

Where I live we elected an openly gay governor and I thought that would be a good thing, but now he is known as "the gay equivalent of Margaret Thatcher"

How, HOW can it be ok to prescribe children Blockers for one health issue not for another well-documented health issue which tests have proven it equally safe

See this is really bad because what people don’t realise is that if you ban the safe blockers kids will just go online and start self dosing, I know a few people who did that before they were old enough to get them on the NHS. We need to ensure we have a safe system not an inaccessible one.

They say it's for kids' safety... but of that's the case, how is it mlre safe when non trans kids take them?? It makes no sense to me at all.

Puberty blockers are used for more than just trans kids too. Limiting access for trans people makes it also less accessible for other medic cases.

Some of the most traumatic and life-changing/ruining things about being trans for me are the irreversible changes made to my body by having to go through puberty instead of going on blockers/ hormones. I sincerely and intensely wish i could have gone on them at the age of about twelve.

I’m getting REAL sick of politicians without medical degrees making medical decisions! Leave it to the doctors! And I’ve heard a lot of trans people talking about how everyone else is joining the “is it safe” conversation like twenty to thirty years too late, asking questions that have already been answered, and this recent freakout is holding up any progress on making it a better, safer process.

Another thing puberty blockers are not just safe but have literally no effects that would stop you from detransitioning since they only delay puberty. They are literally the most risk averse option, how is it that they are being banned?

I'm a trans person who restarted my dose of puberty blocker literally a week ago.... And yes that is literally a lifesaver.
In the weeks leading up to my shot I feel terrible all of the time. And now for these next few I get to feel good and I'm not letting any health care worker take that for me

I find this crap so much worse when the call’s coming from inside the house.

As a trans person under 18 in England, yeah, this freaking sucks. Dysphoria has been kicking by butt lately and there’s only so much shaving and voice training can do.

I have several hormone disorders, they affect my weight and mental health badly. Puberty blockers were suggested by my doctor and would have helped immensely

Please correct me if I'm wrong, people who are on medication that stop puberty can just come off them if they decide they want to proceed with puberty as the sex they were designated as at birth

What ridiculousness this is, it has been well established after years ~30 years of research to show they are safe, and close to being completely side affect free that is almost unheard of.

And you know why we know? Because they are considered a first line of treatment for precocious puberty,

Which trust me as one of the unlucky ones who weren’t prescribed them because back then we didn’t have the long term data showing them to be safe, the idea that you are denying children access is utterly disgraceful.

This must be horrible. When the effects of puberty blockers are reversable while the opposite, going though puberty, isn't. Who is talking about kids being too young to decide here? (Not that we should block all puberty's, only the ones that we know will make the person feel miserable and have more dysphoria for the rest of their lifes...)

This is so upsetting. If I had puberty blockers growing up, I wouldn't have such an extreme hatred for my over-developed body my entire life. These medications can be so important. Now I have to live with changes that can only be reversed with extremely invasive surgery.
