The Moscow Merchants' Meeting House 1914
The official date of establishment of the Moscow Merchant Assembly was in 1814 It has come to play a prominent role in the commercial and cultural life of Moscow. Of great importance was the charitable activities of the Assembly. Members of the Assembly vividly responded to the important events of public life. In the history of the ISS have left an imprint on the big industrialists and businessmen, whose names and achievements are reflected in this publication. A significant role in the cultural life of Moscow played Merchants Club, created in 1785. It is not only playing cards for money, a lot of eating and drinking, organized balls and masquerades, but also organized theatrical performances, invitting well-known writers and artists. The Merchants' Club formed one of the bes libraries in Moscow.
The building was rebuilt in 1907 in the Art Nouveau style by the architect Hilarion Aleksandrovich Ivanov-Shitsem.
