Why is it called the Flatiron Building?

When the Dakota was built, people would go up there to see if it would topple over in the wind. In those days the Dakotas were territories, synonymous with 'far away'. The building was 'way up in the 70s when the city was in lower Manhattan

I used to work right across the street from there!! My favorite park in NYC right there as well

I got to see it in July of 2006 with my sister and it was one of the first photographs I took of the building.
