Sig - Doriner Do 217 - Maiden and Crash (I had the ailerons reversed!!!)

This plane was looking so good. Another of my Grandpa's best built planes. Unfortunately I believe I made a FATAL MISTAKE...and had the ailerons reversed!!!!!!! So stupid!

I even caught the stabilizer going backward, and fixed that before the flight, but I totally missed the aileron's going the wrong way...

Well, after assessing the wreckage, I concluded that the plane is DEFINITELY fixable! I don't even thing we'll have to replace either motor!!! Both props destroyed on impact, and of course there was extensive damage, but mostly isolated to nose (battery bay), and the wing. Not one servo was damaged!!! We got lucky, while still managing to totally destroy this hard fought looker...

I hope my Grandpa fixes it fast (I offered to fix it, but he wants to fix it as a project), so we can get another video up showing a good flying, and better than before plane.

All, a snapshot into my REAL life here...

Grandpa, Don Phillips, passed away earlier this week. He loved building these planes, and I was honored to share many of these wonderful experiences with him. I will miss the great times we shared planning, building, crashing, and even sometimes flying these things together, but he is very certainly with his savior Jesus, right now in heaven, and he may
even bump into my mom, Laura Phillips too!
Our loss, his gain! We'll miss you Grandpa!!!

(ha ha- a short stride to the plane) From inverted yesterday, I swear I was pressing up on elevator but the mini Apprentice wanted to dig for gold just past the asphalt. Thanks for posting so I can keep being nervous and do checks cause it happens, but so does good flights.

Thank you for the great video. I learned a lot. I am building the same plane right now. Do you still know the motor specification your grandpa used or what you would use. The suggested motor is not available anymore.

Everyone, I have GOOD NEWS! The Sig Dornier DO 217, has been fixed, and is completely setup, tested (especially the ailerons!), and it's ready for a flight [video] as soon as weather cooperates! ah man. sorry to see that as that was an awesome looking model. Like others have said these things happen to us all especially when we are excited about a project or new feature. did the same thing on a glider after transferring it to a new TX. so excited to try out voice telemetry and my new vario I didn't realize I had controls reversed! Short flight hehe. Sure look fwd to seeing the re-maiden after it gets fixed. keep up the fun videos.

I had this happen once on an old dx controller that you could reverse servos by a switch on the controller using a screw driver, I managed to fly the plane while my girlfriend reversed the servo with a scewdriver

Your grandpa took that pretty well. Throw some ca and kicker at it and she'll be as good as new. Make for a good repair series. Doriner Do 217 Maiden two!
