From a pill for longevity to a personal reserve of stem cells, David Duncan explores the pros and cons of the potential treatments that could let us live to 164.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

who really gives a shit about the cons? its not like people don't do worse things anyway, its not gonna be the end of the world after rejuvination treatments cost less than 100, 000$, jesus fuck people are hypocritical about it, the real question is how do we get there in our lifetimes?

and I think to get there in out lifetime we need to set economic and cultural incentives for the people who can contribute so they indeed do rev up progress. (if you read this, this is also in your hands, just visiting blogs and tweeting about the issue adds a little bit, so does donating or buying various new related technologies like quantified self toys)

ps - the question of how long you want to live is stupid, most people just don't want their body messed up its that simple.

I want the option of immortality, and I want to live through every day of it.

This is a great idea. I'd love to have the option to live indefinitely. People should at least have the option, whether or not they choose to.

Already been done a group of us worked in private medical research companies 7 yes ago we in injected a compound kept the formula to ourselfs since we did the work on it and have since left our fields so we are expecting a minimum of 635 yrs in male and 722 yrs in female...

actually, only the second option is possible: extending the middle age. Extending senility is not possible due to accumulated damage. Once you are senile, its over in 30-40 years tops. If you want to live for more than a 100, slow down your ageing after 40th birthday.

I'd rather be young forever so I would never have to experience old age and I'd be able to do more. There's no point in living when you can't do anything. I'd wanna stay young so I could try anything I wanted and still be young (and hot) in the future.

I just hope that before my time is up, they can either freeze humans the way this guy talks about, or that you will be able to use your own stem cells to recreate your body. I just want to live long enough for interstellar travel!

I think adding a zero to an average human life span would probably be enough for most people. Living say 800 instead of 80 in a good health. And I'm pretty sure we'll eventually get there. But I'm also pretty sure that anyone alive today will not go past 200 at best.

150 as the maximum option? I'm thinking more in the four digits region. 2000 maybe? It would just be nice to have the choice when to call it all off. I'm sure eventually I would die of boredom.

well, living 50 or more years while being an old man/woman is ont a good idea i think... Its better to work on how to postpone youth then try to live longer. IF both can be done would be much better. This is my opinion...

I didn't "like" this, he seemed to lack confidence, and be slightly out of breath.  * I felt that his entire presentation was weak, unfocused and lacked any specificity. Perhaps, intentionally, simply a generalized overview...

I think living longer might be just something that happens. Not something you set out to do. So you get to 90 and you think, yeah, maybe 100, you get to 100 and you think maybe 105 etc. So you keep going a bit further, and when you get to that point, you want a little more. Then you wish you had taken better care of yourself.

This is bad talk, this man lacks imagination.

It's interesting that these people interested in longevity have to keep trying to sell it to the general public. It's a rich man's self-indulgence, or a geek's indulgence. Not everyone is that interested.
