OOOh, some hot new chips just dropped into our mailbox - ESP32-P4! 🔥🚀

Espressif's latest chip has a snazzy eval board, and we just snagged a couple for CircuitPython development. The P4 is a RISC V dual core 400MHz processor with CSI/DSI support, USB HS, and Ethernet too. This chip doesn't have BLE or WiFi like all the other ESP chips. Instead, it uses a low-cost ESP32-C5 module as a wireless co-processor. The eval board is sorta shaped like a Raspberry Pi and has various A/V connections. We also got 100 sample chips of the 16MB in-package PSRAM variety, so we can start designing our first board. Shall we do a Feather? a Metro? maybe a Pi Zero-shaped thingy?

I wonder when the ESP32-P4 chips will be widely available from Digikey and the like? A Feather would be nice, I can also see this being a great CAN (TWAI) board :)

Something nobody is mentioning anywhere -- the ethernet MAC for ESP32-P4 claims to support IEEE1588 PTP (precision time protocol) hardware timestamping... sooo can we use commodity GPS modules with PPS output to make cheap grandmasters with ns order precision? That would be a real gamechanger!

sunlight readable display 3.5"-4" would be nice!

I'd like to see this micro used as a user interface to the AD SigmaStudio DSP devices. They have so infinite potential for designs of hobby and pro audio products, and the ESP32-P4 looks like just the chip to set up a graphical control interface. Then connect via ethernet to use HTML5 to control from anywhere, such as a smart phone.

Wow, that is a lot of PSRAM. Given its speed and connectors, it seems like it's really ment for something with a screen attached to it. Do like the Ethernet built in. That's nice. A little network attached screen to show a dash board. Only missing PoE.

Oh my god I'm so excited to try an ESP32-P4 dev board!

You got yours before mine came in.
I'll have to live vicariously through you.

What would you say is the smallest board that has both Ethernet and MIPI camera capability. Yes, this is for an IP camera project.

An SoM with P4 will be good for manual assembly. ESP32-P4 itself is listed as costly “standard” part lol.

We would love to see Adafruit put a SPE (Single Pair Ethernet) PHY on the P4. This way, we can do TCP or UDP in noisy (high EMI) areas, using any ol' connector, with Circuit Python. PoDL (sPoE) for a stretch goal, to power it too, over the same pair of wires doing the 10 Mbps data. #CANkiller

Been waiting for P4, wonder how long it will take to have Arduino support & small dev boards for it.

Where to buy the camera connector accessory that came with the kit? I have the esp32p4 ev board but not the connector

make a devkit with them similar to ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1
