When I first started quilting, I felt like I had to have one large piece of fabric on the back. Over the years, I've changed my methods, and now I always use pieced backing. I try to use up extra yardage from the quilt top, extra blocks if I have them, whatever. I love the look. Natalie and I think alike - the back looks great when it's funky!

My daughter wanted giraffe fabric on the back of her quilt. She picked 3 different fabrics 2 of them were giraffe spots in 2 different rainbow color themes the other was giraffe animals with a blue background. I took the giraffe with blue as a panel used the more blue tone rainbow as squares on either side to make a 1/2 yard strip then added the general rainbow as the top and bottom. My other daughter wanted galaxy on the back. Not knowing what quilt pattern or size I was going to make I didn't buy enough fabric. My solution was to frame the 2 tapestry sized panels with fabric that worked with it. Several pieces made the back but it worked.

I’m a big fan of Natalie!

I’ve often wondered why “double sided” quilts aren’t very mainstream. Especially if you’re quilting with an all over pattern.

Happy to see Natalie discussing the process of backing a quilt. I would love to see a video addressing the problem of borders becoming distorted or wavy. Thanks!

I have the worst time trying to figure out how to piece my backings. Just can't seem to conceptualize how to do it. This video has shown me a way I never thought of! I will definitely try it on my next quilt. Thank you, Natalie!
