I’m from St. John’s NL so I was excited to see my city (not town) from a cruise tourists point of view. I think a guided tour would have been more beneficial than just walking around because you would have gotten more accurate info.
Quidi Vidi is pronounced “kiddie viddie”. The war memorial was just renovated and now has a tomb that holds the remains of an unknown Newfoundland soldier. The museum you visited is called “The Rooms” not the doors. Signal Hill is a place you should definitely visit if you come back. It’s where Marconi sent the first ever wireless signal across the Atlantic. The man you talked to in the museum had a good Newfie accent. When he showed you the rabbit fur, he pronounced it as “air” when he was actually saying “Hare”. In some parts of NL, people drop the H at the beginning of words that start with H.

Its fun to see a tourist point of view of my home town. Being limited in time, I'd say you never had a chance to really explore the entire city. You said we could see the whole town in 20 minutes on a bike, which is far from the truth lol.. maybe Downtown St. John's, sure, but the entire city would take a long time to bike around! Glad you had a great time here in your short stay.

Also, its a very common mistake that a lot of tourists make is pronouncing the name 'Newfoundland' correctly... a lot say "New-fin-Lind" or they enunciate each part of the name "New-Found-Land", however we pronounce it as it would rhyme with the word "Understand" .. hence the phrase "Its Newfoundland, understand?" :)

Although you did a great job showing the downtown area overall, I think you might have fallen a little short showing some of the historical importance of St. John's, and you might have left the city looking a bit short on its size. (You suggested you would do the whole city in 20 minutes on an E-bike.) In reality it would take more than that to just cross the city on one of those bikes. The city has a web of trails & routes for walking and biking that offer incredible views & points of interest along the way. As for the history of North America's oldest city, it would have also been worthy of note that St. John's & places in NL were the first to be settled in North America because of the fishery, that offered employment for many thousands of Europeans, and food for millions for centuries. (It was said that the first explorers encountered waters with so much fish, it slowed the passage of their ships.) Because of the importance of the resources, NL was the site of battles between France & England during the French revolutionary war. St. John's was the site of the first trans-Atlantic wireless signal, and NL was also the starting point of the first trans-atlantic flight. St. John's was also of great strategic importance during the 2nd world war. Its too bad that your visit was during a rainy day, because there is an incredible amount of things to see otherwise.

So sad to hear of your mother’s passing. We enjoy so much that you are taking us on your travels and you both are certainly inspiring us to visit new countries. We have booked three cruises next year and planning a visit to Burgas in 2026 . I hope one day that our paths may cross and would like to meet you for a beer . Your mother must have been so proud of you. God bless x

My wife and I had joined the WC in Amsterdam and looked for everyone we had been following throughout the start of the world cruise. We got to say hello to everyone but you two. The only times we would see you was at dinner in the MDR and we didn’t want to disturb you while eating. Really enjoy your videos and enjoyed the small portion of the trip we were on.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I really appreciate you sharing with us. 💔Not easy sharing vulnerability on the Internet. I look forward to whatever you two get up to after this cruise. I'm behind on your videos and working on catching up. A question for you: and let me know if this is covered somewhere already. How do you deal with Internet when cruising? I'm planning a trip to Australia, NZ and onto French Polynesia and wonder if I need the cruise plan or and e-sim or what? Tips?

If you visit St. John's again I really hope you take a tour or two with St. John's Walking Tours because walking two blocks down Water Street and thinking you've seen the whole city makes me really sad. St. John's (not Saint John - residents of both cities are prickly about being accurate) has such a fascinating, quirky, and important history and impact on the world and you'd never know it from just strolling and window shopping. If you want to connect and share experiences, talking to a local is the best way. There is so much that makes St. John's and her people unique (beyond icebergs and seals) and I only wish your video could have shown that. I hope you enjoyed your time in our city though.

I visited this port back in 2019 and it rained from noon on. I really liked the city and if we had more time I would’ve gone further out and see some things but the rain really was a washout. The kind where you have to stay in or be washed away. When we got back to the ship, so much rain had fallen that the walkway to the ship had flooded (still usable but with a good inch of water) and friends that went back early bcuz of the rain said one of the lounges was leaking. It was a royal ship… trying to recall the name, it was an older ship but one of my favorites. Love your videos.

Welcome to Newfoundland! I have lived here for 2 years already, that beautiful place, excluding winter. By the way, local people say newfoundlAnd( accent on the letter "A")
