Friday evening he joined On Balance to discuss what appeared to be nuclear codes being carried by Vladimir Putin's cabinet and how sanctions from the west have only steered the conflict in the wrong direction.

Very short on strategic analysis here. It's a win for US and EU at the expense of Ukraine. EU is now united NATO importance has been proven, US has neutralized with EU Russia and weakened it's ability to wage war by the day to actually threaten NATO, while Russia at war with Ukraine it can't possibly invade EU. US military sakes going through the roof as EU and Asia arms itself with China looking with horror the sanctions they'll encounter if they invade Taiwan with the UN being united vs aggression with a 141 vote even kicking Russia from Human Rights Committee. Victory for most except for Ukraine that is being prevented a win by with holding offensive weapons. It's as if EU and US wants this war to go on and on line Afghanistan.

I know some might not want to hear this but I get the sense US/Nato don't want this over quickly. If Russia continues to lose valuable equipment & soldiers at this pace they will be seriously vulnerable within a year. Sanctions also take a while to really do damage to economy. I think Russia invading Ukraine gave the west a window to slowly bleed Russia and I don't really see Russia recovering fully because they have major demographic issue over the next 10 years as bulk of their working class retire. Putin knew this was his last war.
