17. For me, 17 rewrites was the magic number. After the second, I focus on individual character voices, etc... And you need time between each rewrite.

If you write a cool scene that fit, but isn't necessary, don't listen to this guy. Keep that shit in, because that's why we go to movies.

This is why I HATE writing. Writers need WAY MORE credit, then they get. Not everyone can do it. I'm a director, and I loath screen writing. I would much rather work with a professional writer. A much better story will blossom from that teamwork.
