Damn. I never even thought about this, but it's so obvious now!

Yep.
Push movement has more power than the pull movement.
But pull movement has more speed than the push movement, because the volume that needed to fill the pull room is smaller.

I love the sound design! Glad to see people putting actual effort and good content to shorts

I actually work in a hydraulic repair machine shop and as a basic technician I didn’t even know this ( but it does make sense)

This is correct if we keep the same working pressure. In the case of needing to do the same job, you only have to increase the pressure on the rod side.

That loop is so smooth, it made me watch it twice and didnt suspect anything till the 3rd time

My pulling game is also weak hydraulic cylinder😢

Extend/Retract > Push/Pull. Most confusion stems from nomenclature and language barriers (technically hydraulic systems dont pull. The pump is already creating pressure, which makes it easier to switch sides of the cylinder instead of having a positive pressure pump and vacuum pump for each side)

My hydraulic guy used the term “rod displacement”

And this is why I believe we need a ride engineer appreciation day, . Because they have to think about these things are just the tip of the iceberg of things they have to put into account!

Oh you should do one for how if you connect both sides with lines and pressurize it, it'll extend a lot faster since the pump is only replacing the volume of the piston rod. It's called a regenerative circuit. It'll extend fast with less power and retract slow.

Yep one of the first lessons in machinery school 30 years ago.

When operating equipment on a farm I always wondered how these things actually work. Now I do.

Could you possibly make the piston rod side like a concave ish shape and keep it flat on the bottom so that there is more surface area on top that equals that of the bottom side?
