CNN's Michael Smerconish says that Sen. Joe Manchin's (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema's (D-AZ) refusals to simply fall in line and instead exhibit some independence, is both a rarity in Washington - and reflection of their diverse constituencies.

By deliberately misrepresenting bought and paid for political puppets as "independent thinkers", Smerconish deserves our criticism, not our praise.

I would praise them for their independence if I actually believed they were doing this because they thought it was better for the country. We all know that the real reason is because they’re trying to appease their donors.

Not once has he mentioned the two senators donors and their obvious conflict of interest. This is garbage 🗑

Smerconish: Nah, let’s just do the corporate handouts! F everybody else.

😂 what is the centrist BS? We worked our butts off getting democrats in the majority and now Sinema and Manchin want to up their lobbyist dollars.

I was really hoping the title was tongue in cheek. These two won’t vote for this because they and/or their donors are profiting. That’s not “independence” or “diversity, ” it’s corruption.

People like this kill me. They love to ask the question of whether or not we can afford something when it comes to helping the people of this country.

However, those same questions are never asked when it comes to endless wars or tax breaks for the rich.

Smerconish may as well wear a hoodie with “CORPORATIST” emblazoned on the back.

I like that supporting your corporate donors is now 'independent thinking'. And both Manchin and Sinema oppose bills, they offer no solutions in their place. Sinema won't even negotiate.

I've lost all respect for this guy, those Senators are only against the bill because of their donors

It’s always the same argument- we can’t afford social reform but we can afford massive tax cuts for the richest.

I find it hilarious that whenever there is a tax cut such as the one they did back in December 2017, absolutely no one says we can't afford it. Everytime there is an upward transfer of wealth to the already wealthy people and corporations...there's no limit to spending. But propose policy that actually helps people and these assholes clutch their pearls and start screaming that spending is out of control. The corruption is absolutely disgusting.

This host is simply a corporate lobbyist that is out of touch with how people live, policies that improve people’s lives are shot down. Deplorable

Wow! Smerconish COMPLETELY ignores some key elements to this story. On top of that Sinema and Machin's constituents want these bills. I have now almost totally lost respect for Smerconish.

There's a 'serious conversation about the debt ceiling' every time the subject changes from corporate giveaways to anything else. BS always sounds familiar 😏

Why is Govt Spending a concern "ONLY" when we have a Democratic President?

Smercomish isn’t exactly the best person to listen to. Sinema and Manchin don’t need praise. They need a swift kick out of Congress.

Give me a break. Manchin and Sinema had all the time in the world to get out in front of this. Kick them to the Republican Party, at least voters will blame Republicans for Republican policy. PS Smicormich: 80% of the voters support this plan - including a majority of Republicans; You are making a bullshit point for your billionaire masters.

They NEVER mentions the debt and the oldest talking point in history "how are we gonna pay for it" when it comes to the military budget. NEVER.

If in the end, infrastructure bill doesn’t get passed because of Manchin and Sinema, then they DO NOT get deserve any praise. Infrastructure is too important
