I've heard this before with an added phase. After the fall generation struggles to survive the next generation becomes the hard work generation. The cycle continues. In the U.S. what is called "the greatest generation " were people who grew up during the depression.

It's all about education. You may grow up surrounded by wealth but the parents shouldn't spoil you and teach you how to behave, teach you practical skills and get you to be curious and hard working. I started working as a teenager not because we didn't have money but because ny father didn't want me to be lazy and soft. So if i wanted better clothes, money to go out with friends, i had to earn it

He nailed it. My father and mother taught me and my brother how to work hard . His motto was if you work as hard as a mexican, then youll never be with out a job. We both took this heart and we worked with them and made many friends doing it. My brother resisted. So dad kikced him out at seventeen. After three weeks of not eating, and no one would give him a job . He asked dad if he xould come back. Dad said i never said you couldnt return. I just said if your not going to so as i say, who puts a roof over your head, a bed to sleep in and clothes on your back. If i tell you to mow the yard you do it. I work seven twelves to support you, but you didnt have enough gratitude, to help me a little . My brother never griped again. And instead became a harder worker than i. He became xomputer supervisor and makes more money than i ever saw. And is always there to help Dad.

We have since expanded on that to the hard times create strong men thing, but I guess he came up with the precursor to that so good on him. He was a smart guy, and he probably knew it, but one of his quotes that I have taken to heart and always say is “ I know nothing”. While untrue and I’m aware that I’m pretty intelligent to have that as my baseline means, I will continue to always try and be smarter. Add that to what George Carlin taught me. “ question everything”
