When you asked me to recall a safe place for this exercise I am left dumbfounded as I review where I’ve been at the number of places I have not been safe at all. Amazing. Still searching.

Thank you! Just started counseling, using EMDR, and found your video helpful for practicing my safe place between sessions. It takes me a bit of time to access my safe place and the slightest sound breaks my connection, but the more I practice I find it easier getting back there.
Alert, but relaxed is something I will strive for. Thank you!

If you have trouble imagining a safe place, you can start with finding an image that feels comfortable or relaxing or just a little more safe than before ♡

This is and has been a big issue in the progress of my EMDR. I have never experienced having a safe place. Lots of traumatic life experiences.

I went back to my safe place, a little lake with springs here in Italy, where I used to do kayaking lessons. Safe and peaceful place which helped me to detach myself from my problems, not looking at them as real issues...Istarted crying ... Going back to my self place reminded me I have to love myself the way I used to do before...Peace

I did this with my therapist but I didn’t add a saying. I said I am enough. This is a beautiful exercise. My homework is to practice this everyday. Do you have a recommendation of how long you should practice per session? I have many people telling me horrible things about me in my life but thinking I am enough made me feel secure and block out their naysaying. Thank you for your help and making this video.

I've created my own safe space in my mind but have never had one irl. It made me kinda sad to realize that. When i did the exercise a lot of energy shifted to the right side of my chest which holds a lot and it hurt physically, i think the body is holding something there. Anyway thank you for this exercise i will take it slow and practice.

i used to hide in the closet as a kid. That was the first place i thought of when you said safe place. However, I used a much more positive place!

Great practice! Thank you for the teachings! May I tell you something miss? My safe place is the movies and when you were talking in the video about how we all relate to past, present and future you looked SO MUCH like Amy Adams as a language expert in the movie Arrival!

Is it critical that it be a literal, real place? Or can it be a generic or fantasy safe place? (Ie if I genericallyfeel safe surrounded by books can I imagine a private library with a sunny window even if I’ve never actually been there?) am I overthinking this?

Can EMDR help if I can't find a safe place? My brain does not seem to feel safe, My therapist seems to be struggling knowing how to help me get to that place.
