New research from the University of Virginia looks at the ways online algorithms from social media companies are influencing how users get news and information, and how Facebook is creating an “echo chamber.” Brent Kitchens, assistant professor of commerce at the University of Virginia and one of the researchers, joined CBSN to discuss the findings.

This would not be an issue if news itself was factual. Then social media platforms would not have to dictate who sees what, that’s public opinion and not factual news.

People who think people care about this issue should know people (the general population) don't care about this issue. Whatever they read they see as truth. It's only an issue now because we're in the midst of an election. All in all Twitter, Facebook, and Google have a lot more control over media and issues surrounding accountability than anyone realizes. Not sure they can ever be held in check. But as companies, they are not at fault for the revenue fall off of TV, radio, and newspaper companies. It seems the book publishing industry still keeps chugging along.
