I looked this pub up-it was the only building on the street to survive the Blitz! The owners lied to the manager and told her they were going to close the pub for 2 days but “inventory”. When the manager came to work two days later she was horrified to find the building was demolished!

The company should be ashamed of themselves for tearing down such a historical site and because of that I am glad that the law makers and citizens joined together to make the company rebuild the pub, as the story of pavlov's house "this house shall stand"

Overseas investors that just buy up land in another country to drive up housing costs are scum. Makes it hard for actual residents to purchase a house

Sounds like many people seen this place as sanctuary more than a tavern it's a place where they could see friends and family and look back on memories of all the good times they had there.

When I was in my 20s, I moved into a house in a historic district. Around the same time, some asshat bought a house down the road and quickly leveled it to make way for his Mcmansion. It was one of a few houses on this road that had historical significance in the Underground Railroad. I'd never seen so many at-odds neighbors come together so fast against a common cause

They were actually even sneakier. The building was in the process of being assessed and a few days later was going to be "listed" (essentially marking it as a historic building that couldn't be significantly altered because of it's historic importance and giving it extra legal protection).

They weren't just trying to knock it down without permission, they wanted to destroy it before it became undevelopable.

Some places go farther with that. If you damaged/destroy a protected historical structure, not only do you have to pay to have it repaired/rebuilt - it would also have to be done using historically accurate techniques and tools (or at least as much as possible), so you'd be shelling out for specialist work on top of material and labor costs!

If a huge amount of people were to fight rich people, then their would be a good outcome. We need to start doing this to companies too.

Probably brought it up to fire code and modern plumbing and electrical! Big win for the locals, as it often costs more than the building is worth to do this!
