Do You Really Remember the 5th November?

'Remember the 5th November' they say. Have a bonfire night party! But why are they so keen that we have Guy Fawkes night celebrations? Scottish history tour guide Bruce Fummey sets you a challenge to work out what they're hiding.

There are many tales from Scotlands history that are hidden from view. Sometimes they're deliberately obscured. This is one of them.

Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.

As a Scottish history tour guide people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation of your from the US. So I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

Another great thought provoking video. That's why you're the best historian out there. You don't just read off facts and figures, you question history, you make people think, get us to look at things from a different perspective.
History isn't black and white, there's a heck of a lot of grey in there, that's too often airbrushed out

Bombed out. Again educated about Scottish and British history previously unknown to me. Have to look up some obscure history books and family letters and stories.

The ring leader of the Gun Powder plot was Robert Catesby not Guy Fawks.... Guy Fawks was the hired explosives expert and the only man to be charged and sentenced to death for the plot. We know this from the actual signiture of Guy Fawks when he signed his confession, the only known signiture he gave... Thomas Wintour, John Wright, Thomas Percy and Christopher Wright are the other conspiritors I know of out of the 13 strong band of conspiritors....

I had heard of William of Orange landing in Torbay in Devon on the 5th November 1688.

Explaining Jamie the saxth’s move to the big smoke as being as fast as shite aff a shovel - pure brilliant. Although I think his “progress” took several weeks - he made it as flash and pompous as he could to let the Sassanach’s that James the” furst “ was in the the King of Scots has inherited England from his dear old Auntie Bess. England is really just a Scottish colony really.
