The Ukrainian offensive's main aim seems not to recover a large amount of captured territory (which in any case they are not capable of doing) but to gain some symbolic victory to turn around the rising perception that the USUkraine is losing. The minor victory will be magnified to reinvigorate the support of the reluctant European partners.
If that be the case, then logically the Ukrainian offensive will go north of Bakhmut where Russian defences are not as layered and hardened as in Kherson. The concentration against Kherson may be a feint to trick the Russian as happened in September 2022.

Trap? hmmm, who knows.
My projection was that there was never going to be any Russian Winter offensive and they would instead preserve their army in response to the inevitable Ukrainian one.
Ukraine being driven by political reasons has to capture ground to justify the Western support.
I'm weary as to the capabiity of the Russian army to perform large scale offensive operations, I would expect them to try and weather the storm and once the Ukrainians have run out of steam, continue with their normal offensive operations towards the capture of Donbas.
While I'm sure Ukraine will try to disrupt Russian supply lines with long range attacks and heavily bomb Russian positions before their offensive, I'm confident Russia can respond to that and not break down.
At this point I'm more curious as to the NATO planning for this operation as well as the usual Ukraininian terrorist ideas for stealing the limelight.
Alas, with no airforce to speak of I think Ukraine is already on the backfoot.

1:26 none of that matters as any defensive missile fired by Ukraine in response to Russian attracts, that errantly go off course and kill civilians are the fault of Russia and should be treated as if Russia intended it to be. Russia is the invading country here not Ukraine.
