I heard that Stalin read the letter to his subordinates, they said he should arrest her.
He found it hilarious and let it pass

Stalin: reads prayer, laughs his ass off, has a stroke
Bodyguard 1: should we check on him?
Bodyguard 2: stfu or you’ll get us both killed

That's where "Death of Stalin" got their opening from!

My girl really sent the atheist dictator of her country a tweet that said "praying for u". That's savage as hell.

Death of Stalin might be in my top 3 favorite comedies of all time and it displays what happened masterfully

Stalins friends actually offered to have her arrested and possibly executed for the letter but Stalin put the letter down and it was never discussed again. Turns out she was his favorite pianist and he couldn’t bear the thought of executing her.

"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future" Prov 31:25

Her letter was probably a source of hope for redemption for him. Evil people often respect and help those with true integrity.

That woman was incredibly brave to preach the word fiercely like that to an obvious psychopathic and atheistic dictator.

That was truly one of the moments in history…

The first conductor was simply too afraid to do so, the second was too drunk. The orchestra actually had to pull a third and final conductor out of his home while he was still in his nightwear to conduct. But that wasn’t all, several guests had already left and for the acoustics to sound the same, they had to pull several peasants off the street to sit in and attend.

Yudina responded with courage. This was back when a message like that would get you killed. People today can scarcely even find a place to exercise that kind of courage because there is no repercussions for our actions.

Literally finished her letter with "you are evil and I pray for your wicked soul."
The absolute nerves of steel on that woman.

Shostakovich was an absolute genius. Jazz suite no. 2: VI. Waltz 2 is a masterpiece

Who knew that brutal dictator appreciated Mozart.

Yudina was absolutely fearless. She knew he could murder her for that or 'reeducate' her

So if you adjust for inflation and convert over to USD, Stalin sent her the equivalent of over $500, 000 for that single record...I knew it was gonna be a lot more than the modern conversion rate, but that's a lot higher than I was expecting! Makes her response even more badass as that was not an insignificant amount of money to receive and then just give away

A small correction: Yudina was an Orthodox Christian, not Catholic (coming from a Catholic).

All churches were underground in the CCCP in early days (little more lenient towards the end) due to state atheism being coerced, but Orthodox Christianity was tacitly accepted more than other religions, especially Catholicism and Judaism, especially seeing as Stalin was deeply antisemitic.

There was no "station owner", just the directors, it was a public radio.
