What a fantastic, fast, exciting dance! The Alexandrov dancers have always excelled in these Cossack dances and this one just leaves me breathless!

I traveled to Russia in 2017 and visited Moscow and a bunch of historical villages and towns on the way to the last stop, St Petersburg. After 2 weeks of travel, I was very tired, but a fellow traveler offered me her ticket to this show for FREE. Even though I just wanted to sleep, I couldn't pass up the chance to see this live. Needless to say, it was the highlight of my trip. I paid the extra 600 rubles (like $10) to be allowed to film the show on my phone and take pictures. I'm so glad I did. These dancers are world class athletes and are amazing. The show was phenomenal.

My Grandfather and Grandmother came to America from Odessa. When I was a boy, he took me to see the Moiseyev Dance Company on their first tour of the states. It marked me forever with pride in my heritage. I destroyed the livingroom furniture trying to copy what I saw on the stage. To this day, this kind of performance is thrilling. I could watch it for hours.

The sword section is certainly not recommended for newbies. These cossacks are not just dancers, they're acrobats. Amazing.

My mom was a short woman 45 kilo and a gymnast in Sokol Taber. She learned how to do this dance. I still have her swords. This was learned from in early 60’s. She also could do the dance of soldiers. She was so talented and had 8 kids in her dancing life. I miss you so much mam. 14 yrs now, RIP. She was 100% Viking-Norse Irish.

Russia certainly is an amazing country of great dichotomies. The richness of their cultural artistry often strikes me as surprising in lieu of the decades of stories of hardships I've often heard.

In sociology it is said you can measure the prosperity of a civilization by the richness of their artistic expression.
