The senior leadership of the United Nations has condemned a ban by Afghanistan's Taliban on Afghan women working for the global organisation, with the Secretary-General calling it a violation of the inalienable fundamental human rights of women. In a statement, Antonio Guterres warned that the decision violated Afghanistan's obligations under international human rights law and infringed on the principle of non-discrimination which remains a core tenet underpinning the U.N. Charter.
His Deputy Amina Mohammed herself a Sunni Muslim - echoed the condemnation while expressing her personal outrage at the decision.
