Brian McGrath - Old Note (Lisa O'Neill)

Here's my humble take on "Old Note" by the wondrous Irish folk singer Lisa O'Neill, from her new album 'All Of This Is Chance." Lisa has been among my very favorite artists over the last number of years; you have likely heard me cover her songs in my live sets here and there.

I was beyond lucky to get to see her perform live at @oldtownschool in Chicago in May, in a room of around a hundred, from 15ft away. I even got to meet here afterwards and chat for a few minutes. I was an absolute colossal dork while talking with her, in an I'm-trying-to-say-ten-things-at-once kinda way, but she was incredibly kind and gracious the whole time. Hands down, it was my most favorite live performance by anyone I've seen in my life thus far. Captivating from the first to last note.

A lovely take! I was also lucky enough to see Lisa this summer, in Toronto, where she played to maybe 100 people in just about the most intimate ticketed show I've ever been to. Like you, I got to talk to her for a short minute when I spied her at the bar before the show, and of course I was too loud and too enthusiastic, and I think I scared the hell out of her, haha. It was a rapturously intimate gig, though, and one that I'll remember for many years to come. I hope she's finding enough success now to tour North America more regularly.
