Its Spooky Season so lets get into some grim dark horror! In this video were going to dive into one of the best warhammer horror tails ever released! The watcher in the rain!

I don't think it's possible to put into words just how truly horrific and terrifying the universe of Warhammer 40K truly is. It is a realm, full of sadistic monsters, heretical cults, and dark Eldritch gods. It is a galaxy where the human race fights a millions of battles across the stars every single day, not in the hopes of making any form of advancement towards our glorious destiny, as that was the hopeful dream of a young species that was crushed long ago. Instead we fight on, only to cling on to existence for but a few more centuries.

The void of space, The dark places between stars. These are the hunting grounds of the aliens and mutants and heretics those who lurk in every shadow, and desire only to consume the flesh of the Emperor's faithful. The universe is brutal, un forgiving and uncaring. And it is rife with material to write some truly spectacular spooky stories.

unfortunately most of the time these tails are told from the perspective of 8 ft tall demigods clad and ceramite power armor. So it's a little difficult to put ourselves in their shoes. And really feel fear for our main characters.

The watcher in the rain was one of the early entries into the Warhammer horror line. A project that was introduced by the black library a few years ago. That sought to shed some figurative light on the darkest corners of this universe, the smaller more macrob stories that often get overshadowed by The Never Ending War that plagues the galaxy.

The story sees an unlikely pair being forced to rely on one another for survival as they attempt to escape a drowning world. All the while, someone or something is stalking them in the darkness, something so evil and terrible that to look upon. It is to risk losing yourself to the darkness forever.

It's an excellent story, one I think doesn't get nearly as much credit as it deserves. One with an absolutely perfect ending. So gather on my friends and blitz dive in to the chilling tail of The watcher in the rain.

I love the ending it’s a real “well well well if it isn’t the consequences of my actions”

The Watcher is actually the good guy, an entity that judge ones that committed grave sins and ask/haunts them to acknowledge their dark deeds. Remember, warp entities doesn't have to be demonic horrors, it can also manifest good ones, for instance, St. Celestine or ghost warriors.

In world of space demons fighting super soldiers, this is one of the creepiest things I’ve heard

To everyone watching this retelling, i cannot stress enough that you find a way to listen to the actual audio drama. It's really well done and worth the time

It’s poetic that she’s killed by a crew she screwed over. I like to think that, right before she died, she saw the Watchers face and was horrified by what she really was.

Damn. For sure thought that the ship was just gonna be the watcher toying with her. But that ending fits way better than the one I thought of. A literal consequential taste of their actions.

By the end of the story the Watcher, while creepy, doesn't even seem like an antagonistic entity. It's like a chaos entity of metaphysical and literal reflection.Holding people accountable for their past transgressions. Would explain it's why it's so interested in the one character over all others.

That was incredibly poetic and whoever wrote that story was a genius. She actually created her own death trap. :)

I really appreciated how this much horror was possible with only a tiny smidge of chaos.
Mental breakdown from stress alone called have filled the watcher's role.
Also, reminder that humanity doesn't actually need chaos to be terrible.

This was a superb allegory on monsters. At the end of the day, the watcher in the rain did as much actual damage as a campfire story about werewolves or vampires. All of our infamous monsters are just allegory for the monsters within ourselves.

I discovered this story due to Bricky and Adeptus Ridiculous. The only thing scarier than aliens, demons, and eldritch horrors? Paper work.

Can't help but smile at that ending. Her just desserts come by her own hand. I understand why she committed what she did, the logic not being terrible in the face of 40k's reality. The poetic close is fantastic

If you want some horror, the Siege of Terra series has loads of great perspectives from normal humans, done in a way which really puts you there.

This plays out like a fairy tale with the message of "Always do the right thing" as its theme, and I love it.

That Ending...What perfect Irony. While the inquistor apprentice accepted everything and even though betrayed, I'd like to think he went Peacefully while coming to terms with what he did. Greta on the other hand....Welp, she has become a meal to someone's table. And I would not be surprised if this was the SAME militarum that resorted to cannibalism.

edit: Oops, I thought not. But, still Ironic.

lol the ending
I love how the eldritch horror is just the background of the story. Oh, there is a solar-system sized warp storm and a mind-invading entity? That's normal stuff for imperium citizens. Like weather.

“Everyone is fucked” but at least Karma got everyone and especially her the irony that the “Imperium will eat itself” when they get to her and feast on her for the long journey

When I listened to this story, all I can think of is the flaws of the imperium and how it is failing its people. Driving someone to this point due to the harsh codes and laws enforced upon the people. The salamanders are far from perfect, but it really does solidifies them as one of my favorite chapters, due to them actually giving a shit about mankind

"I was thinking about the horrible fate this mission was reserving me, deamon, chaos space marine, filthy xenos.... But I was wrong, the worst was the silent and cold embrace of the dark space"
