"The French Song" (Quand le Soleil dit bonjour aux Montagnes) is a song by Canadian singer and songwriter Lucille Starr. The song was produced in 1964 by Herb Alpert. The original English version ("When it's Lamp lighting Time in the Valley") was released in 1933. In 1936 the song was released to the same melody with new lyrics ("When the Sun says goodnight to the Mountain") and was then transferred to translated into French. Lucille Star's version contains both French and English sentences: the first part is in French, the second part of the song is the original English text and then ends again in French. It is believed that music publishers chose the title The French song because the actual French title ("When the sun greets the mountains") was considered too difficult for non-French speakers.
