Thanks for this, I've done solar dyeing by adding dye to damp yarn, wrapping it in plastic wrap and letting it sit in the sun all day. I hadn't thought of using a jar, I'll try it out too. We have very hot days in Australia so it'll be good to use that heat! 🌞

I love the way this turned out! It's like two different skeins in one. Great colors.

I can't believe I haven't seen this video yet!
That looks like a quart jar. I'm wondering how this method would compare with a 2-quart jar or even a gallon jar where the yarn would not be so compressed in the jar. This looks like something that would work quite well in the South.

I'm in Oklahoma, so I could do this all summer long, in the shade! Nice job!

This is such a fun technique! I think I'm going to have to try this even though I am not a yarn dyer! This is just so intriguing. I have the Mason jars and just have to get the yarn and food coloring. Can't be any easier.

That blue is beautiful! I recently did solar dyeing but dropped the food coloring on top of the water to let the colors spread down. However, seeing yours, I think I need to try your method too. I love this unique color way.

I'm not sure if someone's already said this, but you could also put the yarn in a pan with simmering water while its still in the jar instead of taking the yarn out of the jar, putting into a jelly roll, and nuking it. This might be an easier way to set the last of the dye with less of a chance of messing with the way its dyed.

The yarn looks great BTW.

Did you know you've got this really cute thing that goes on with your mouth when you speak, and you have a very naughty grin, I
love your videos.

The blue washing out may not be because of the heat source. It may just be excess dye that would not have joined with the yarn anyhow. That was a lot of dye in a small space. The yarn can only bind to so much dye.

I would try it with wet yarn in jar and a straw to layer the colors.

This color way should be called Reef. You have the Water the sun and the oral colors.

Does food coloring with yarn last through washing’s? Does it fade or run when washed?

I’m curious how the end result would’ve looked if you had put the yarn in dry. Added a few drops of blue. Added a bit of water. Then added some yellow. Added some yellow. Then more water then added black then topped it off with more water. I’m typing this comment without having watched this entire video though. Lol
