Just picked this up super duper cheap while waiting for FF VII Rebirth. Love JRPGs & love exploring and a long story. Hopefully it was patched and doesn’t crash. I’ll make multiple save files.

Picked it up for $30 on PSN because I saw it described as a loving homage to the Final Fantasy games of the late 90s and boy that is an apt description. If you're like me and absolutely adored Final Fantasies 7, 8, 9 and 10 you will enjoy Edge of Eternity. It has the turn based combat Squeenix ditched in the late 2000s with an added element of tactical grid combat. It reminds a bit of The Last Remnant as well. Don't get me wrong, I love the newer more hack n' slash oriented FF games like FF16, 15 and the FF7 remake but I'll always prefer the turn based combat of the original games.

I say it is worth it, for an indie game. It's really bloody good game. Unity r thieves, taking an unfair cut of profits from indie developers. They work really hard, to develop their games.

Just found your video while searching for a quick description of the game since it's leaving Xbox Game Pass on August 16th and wasn't sure about trying to play through it in the brief time period alotted.

I often find smaller creators while looking up game pass leavers, but it's nice to find videos that are more recent vs. something uploaded years ago.

I rushed through another RPG, Cris Tales, around this time a year ago for the same reason, but ended up buying it because I liked it. Not sure if I'd do that again for this one, but I'm glad to hear it doesn't have random encounters at least.

I appreciate your brief and candid "friend asking a friend" approach here though.

P.S. Are you Welsh? Just curious because your accent is cool and I find Welsh history fascinating.

Well sadly my game is broken. I'm about 12 hours in, was really enjoying it despite the fairly regular crashes, but I'm at a point where I have to lure a big orokko to the camp, and without fail every time I beat it and it goes to the 2 cut scenes, the game crashes when trying to reload the game after the second cut scene. I've tried skipping the cut scenes, I've tried going off and doing other things then coming back to it, but nothing works. Good thing it was 80% off, if I had paid full price for a broken game I would have been really pissed off but as it stands I'm just disappointed I won't be able to continue the game past chapter 1 (I'm not starting all over again).

The dialogue in this game is surprisingly good! The voice acting is not bad at all and the flow of conversations sounds very natural, like people actually talking to each other in real life. It can also be quite funny, and not in a cringey jokes kinda way, but genuinely funny. Even some of the random npc text dialogue will make me laugh.

I liked it, remembers me from the ps1 and ps2 era when you could find gems from unknown developers, the graphic is not amazing, i don't like the cardboard buildings that you can't enter, but the WORST is that it crash constantly, not ever i played something like that!

Games are super subjective and it's definitely got a budget and dated feel...but I do think it's worth more than 10$ cause there is a ton of content...dated visuals don't deter me that much it's battle system is a bit unique with the way you can move during combat is it 70$...no is it as good as infinite wealth...ofcourse bot but it's a solid game in my opinion and easily worth 30$ in my opinion....like u said the biggest crime is looking like a previous gen game....but that's ok I had a ton of fun with RPGs in the past so it's ok for me...but yea this stuff is all subjective good video dude

Been playing this past last week sinse it was in gamepass and even if its engaging its mostly running simulation. U have to run constantly long distances to reach even small side quests and the direction guide is shitty and there is no fast travel option or anything which would save your time from constantly running around. Fights are also becoming too repetative quite quicly.
And yes, the crafting is shit. Not much options and it takes ages to find all the incredients to craft basicly anything and quite long time to get your weapons upgrated etc.
Dialogies with random people are one sided and short but with some strory characters lasts for too long.
Also, I wonder if some teenager wrote the dialogies... Main characters are childish, negative and passive agressive even for nice people. Behavior which is not fitting for characters who are pictured as heros. There should be options for your responses.

Anyhow, its not all bad, it looks kind of good (not the graphics but over all the world itself) and something keeps me still playing it. Would not pay anything near full price tho.

I personally don't think its worth it, at least not full price. I think for such a small team, what they did is incredible and i like what i saw of the story and characters. However, it just had too many drawbacks and i was unable to enjoy it (the impossible to see screens at night, the insanely small text, the random difficulty spike, the crashing after an hour or two of playing, etc).
