I'm Pete and I play music! Having fun with metal guitar doing everything from modern metal, extended range 7 strings and 8 strings to thrash metal on a good old 6 string. Riffs in the styles of other bands, shredding and lots of fun with metal music!

It sounds like the theme for a new character in a Streetfighter game in this tuning

it is more like a soundtrack from the arcade game in this tuning.
which is, FUNTASTIC!

It isn't the tuning that makes the riff heavy, it is the bass and drums that do that.
It has taken me a long time to finally realize that. For the guitar side of things, the ingredients for a "heavy" riff, is that the riff has to sound good in any tuning it is played in (with respect to key changes if needed).
This riff from Architects meets that criteria for me.

Whenever a discussion of lower tunings appears, I resort to Monuments. They can make DADGAD as heavy as F standard, and it is all about functional usage. Similarly VOLA, where F# standard can be a bone crusher and a soul warmer.

Loved this one especially! Dunno if it's simply because I hear (and see) someone else playing it, or because it's higher now, but suddenly the intricacies and the harmonies in the riff (that come in the second time around) stand out more. Blesses the ears!

They were never “heavy” but they’re fucking good and this riff still sounds good in standard

This song is so beautiful, both the riff and the lyrics hit so hard ❤

It's almost heavier in a slightly different way. The fact that those harmonies on the repeat are so much more sweet in this tuning. Heck.👌👌

I just saw them on Wednesday in Denver!!!!

A lot of modern heavy music would be "heavier" if they used real amps in the studio, urned them up extremely loud, dialed back the gain somewhat, and brought bass forward quite a bit.

Almost everyone makes the same mistake and plays the last two notes of that ascension as a 2nd and a 3rd (respective to the root). It's actually a 6TH and a 3rd. :D

MP3 audio file anywhere? I want this as my ringtone. Currently have an isolated rhythm guitar track by Wintersun as my ringtone.

It doesn't necessarily sound heavy, sounds great tho!

I think the answer is clearly nope.. it sounds whimsical and uplifting rather than heavy.

this riff is too reliant on the drone of the low strings, so no

Architects aren't heavy in the low tuning they already use so this is just weak sauce. Remember, heaviness is a feeling of weight or friction when listening to a passage. Low tunings can help, but they aren't THE things that makes a riff "heavy". It needs to feel like you're lifting something when you hear it
