I, Claudius Dream Cast

HBO is teaming up again with "Rome" duo Jane Tranter and Anne Thomopoulos for a miniseries based on "I, Claudius" and "Claudius the God" by Robert Graves. This is a cast for who I had in mind to play the Julio-Claudian dynasty and the other characters. I have been a fan of the 1976 BBC TV miniseries since I was a kid, it rocked! These are some of my favourite actors who I THINK would play the characters well. Music features the main title theme, "Cleopatra Seduces Caesar", "Triumph" and Terrible News" from "Rome"; "Centurion" theme, and Dario Marianelli's "Alexandria" from the movie "Agora". I made only one error, the casting of Gershon. For anyone who's curious I only casted the slaves just for fun plus I was casting the characters by each episode, it maybe boring, but I couldn't resist.

I can't be the only only one who thinks the orginal cast is utterly perfect?

Pretty hard to beat the original cast. Kristen Scott Thomas looks most like Sian Phillips so perhaps she should play Livia.

I often read books and envisage people in the roles. Mine would be

Augustus -Leonardo DiCaprio
Livia -Emily Blunt
Claudius - Matt Smith
Tiberius - Daniel Craig/Tom Hardy
Caligula - Rami Malek
Agrippinilla - Lena Heady
Kristen Scott Thomas - Antonia
Matt Bomer - Germanicus

Though I can't think who to cast as Sejanus, Nero or Messalina

And Christian Bale as "The Beaver'.

Leana Headey should be Livia. Gary Oldman can play the rest of the cast.

The casting is a challenge because the principle actors all have to fit a particular age bracket. Firth has proved he can fake a stutter. I've loved him ever since his Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. Hopkins is a good pick for the elder Claudius. Mansa looks the part for Musa. Liotta is wonderful in anything. Jude Law is good for Germanicus. I don't know the woman you have picked for Livia. That is an extremely important role and I remain spoiled by Sian Phillips' performance. Please God, don't give it to Meryl Streep. Maggie Smith could do it right. Who do you have for Augustus? Gary Oldman is my favorite actor. He can make the best of a plum part and can be such a fine villain. I would ask him to do Caligula, but I don't think he's young enough anymore. I have no idea who all those children are. I don't watch anything coming out of Hollywood these days.

@HistoryLover1550 In all honesty, I have no idea. I'm rather detached from modern culture.
