A mammal is an animal that breathes air and has a backbone. In fact, human beings are mammals.

Mammals may look different, but mammals all have skeletons that hold us up and keep us moving. Mammals include a wide variety of animals, from cats to humans and even whales.

In fact, there are over 5,000 species, or kinds, of living mammals.

Mammals are warm-blooded animals, which means that they are able to keep their body the same temperature regardless of the temperature they are in. This is what allows mammals to live in many different climates.

Mammals give birth to babies and are fed with their mother's milk. Mammals are the only animals that create milk to feed their young.

Female mammals have unique glands called mammary glands that create milk once their babies are born.

The mother feeds their young with this milk until they are old enough to find food for themselves.
