Besides the fact that they made this video in honor (?) of their upcoming 4mil Mendy, can I just say that, I LOVE AND MISS this kind of nerdy pure music content!! I can always learn something from their conversations! Twoset Academy we need more lessons from Prof. Yang and Prof. Chen! And also I noticed that, normally it's Eddy who talk a bit more, but here he gave Brett almost all the spotlight! Ah I love these two people so much!!

7:49 Props to editor-san for syncing Brett’s singing with Hilary’s playing—that was really satisfying :)

Eddy saying "Im a time traveler, my favourite Mendelssohn concerto is Brett's", that is what best friends do ;)

Edit: Wow I never got so many likes before! Thanks for everyone who checked my channel, I wish I had 1% of the lingling skill, but I would exchange all of it for a friendship like Brett and Eddy ;) Now go practice!

Let's be honest, Brett nailed copying the interpretations we saw, as well as explaining why certain things are interesting. Even as a pianist, Mendelssohn is my favorite composer, as the "Songs without words" are just a beautiful collection of reasonably technical pieces ("songs? 😂).
He was also extremely prolific, and passed WAY too young. If Mendelssohn lived to 90 we'd probably have world peace.

Just heard this guy Brett Yang with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra a few days ago, you guys should check out his performance, there's a recording on YouTube and it's amazing!

The discussion around 5:20 about what makes Mendelssohn difficult is SO true. I am a singer, not an instrumentalist, but our conductor literally just gave this speech in rehearsal this week about how Mendelssohn is just elegance and taste personified. Nothing can be over done, nothing can be heavy handed, everything has to be just perfect. In that sense, very similar to Mozart, who Mendelssohn admired greatly. Mendelssohn is very simple and straightforward. No weird meter changes, not awkward as a vocalist (unlike Beethoven, who makes vocalists do instrument type stuff so it can be pretty horrible to sing ex. Ode to joy), the way the lyrics fall on the notes makes sense, no crazy dissonant harmonies. So it should be easy, but it’s not! It can feel very exposed and your tone and intonation have to be spot on. I love singing Mendelssohn but he is not easy!

This is honestly my favorite kind of twoset video. Just watching Brett and Eddy nerd out and teach us so many nuances of the instrument. It really helps people getting into classical music such as myself, and I imagine veterans also enjoy such insight and discussion. Thanks guys!

Random people: classical music lacks creativity, the sheet music is already there and people just play it;
Twoset: Here are five recordings of the same piece but played in different styles, techniques, interpretations, etc. Check mate!

Sorry I'm making more than one comment again, but I just keep having new thoughts as I'm watching this video. I love it so much!

I loved how right at the end Eddy said his favourite performance of Mendelssohn was Brett's, because he'd time travelled to the future and heard it! So supportive and cute. Brett you don't need any extra sprinkling of talent from Ling Ling, you're already talented enough to do an amazing performance and stand alongside the greats mentioned in this video

Anne-Sophie Mutter’s Stradivarius Emiliani has such a beautiful sound. it lends itself so well to Mendelssohn . It’s like a beautiful opera singer and she knows how to bring it’s voice out. To me it’s the best sounding Stradivarius there is.

After getting really into Twoset, I've picked up the violin again. People here in the chat warned me this would happen, but I didn't believe them. It's been 30 years since I last played (as a little kid), but I'm pleased to see that I still remember some skills. I don't know where I'm going to go with it, but I'm just enjoying myself for now. I'm working on a simple version of Ode to Joy. My partner tunes the violin for me every evening and then takes the dog out for a walk so I can practice alone.

Hilary’s Mendelssohn will always be breathtaking, most of her v/r will always have a place in my mind rent free!
I can’t wait to listen to Brett’s Mendelssohn playing on that Strad 🤯

Also, I love the programe for the concert!

*Mozart - Overture to the marriage of Figaro*
*Mendelssohn - Violin concerto in E minor* 👏🎻🎻
*Bach - Concerto for 2 violins in D minor, BWV 1043*

Shoutout to the conductor as well, Maestro Rodolfo Barráez, he’s Venezuelan! so excited to see a fellow South American in the SSO 👏👏👏

Hilary Hahn’s Mendelssohn was my gateway into classical violin 😇 there was a video on YouTube which used to have 20+ million views and I must have contributed a good 200 of those until it disappeared. So so good ❤️

I am really mad that Jansen's section was copyright claimed. A violinist would surely want to feature on TwoSet. She should change her recording company, lol. I am mad at anyone who copyright claims on TwoSet because that is just stupid and counter productive to the cause. By now I take Hahn and Chen as family friends after appearing on this channel over the years.

Dang, even if the music had to be cut I wish they'd kept the talk about why Brett liked Janine's interpretation!

Can you guys also do a retrospective? Like, Brett's top 5 Tchaik and Eddy's top 5 Sibelius concertos recordings.
I love that you guys got all technical here. I'm not a violinist, but you have a way of making even the uninitiated understand what you mean. Can't wait for the 4 mil Mendy!

7:04 slow mo of Hilary ❤ This is exactly my favorite type of content where you break down the technicality and musicality of superb violin playing. I like the extra layer of excitement and meaning here since you'll be performing it soon 😁 Let's GO TS, keep practicing!
