When Qualcomm announced the new Snapdragon 8 Elite, it provided us with some benchmarks it captured itself. Those were helpful, but how can we fully trust them if we didn't witness them happen? Now, we have some of our own benchmarks that we captured ourselves using a Snapdragon 8 Elite reference device. These still won't be as good as the benchmarks we'll get from actual retail devices in the coming months, but they are still quite interesting and exciting to see!

00:00 - How powerful is the Snapdragon 8 Elite?
00:46 - Reference device specs and info
01:34 - Geekbench 6 from Primate Labs
02:03 - PCMark Work 3.0 from UL Benchmarks
02:45 - 3DMark Wild Life from UL Benchmarks
03:05 - Stay tuned for benchmarks from real devices!

Imagine having this chip on your phone, and you only use it to browse through social media. 😮‍💨

1:32 you're not the only people reporting on this, people from China already have OnePlus 13, Xiaomi 15 benchmarked with more than similar results.

All this power but why aren’t they porting console and pc games to capitalise on it.

With Asus removing their Bootloader Unlock Tool and not giving any alternatives...I will not touch the ROG phone series ever again, even if this chip really destroys the competition.

if only they gave us 500-700$ laptops with these chips as a cheaper version of the pricier x elite / x plus laptops

phone got the same GPU score in wild life extreme as the rtx 3050 notebook gpu.

Double the single core score of an i9 9900k and 25% higher multi core score than the i9 9900k.

People: Yup lets do nothing but social media in it and call it mediocre for gaming next year so we replace it to play Subway surfers and candy crush on it.

90% of Android users don't use half that power, they're fine with 8 Gen 1 power. These chips are good for android handheld gaming and real hardcore home users.

I would suspect the Samsung Galaxy 25 will have battery saving tech.

I assume something like an overclocked ROG Phone 9 to be faster with this processor and that cooling thingy.

Now we can play those shitty mobile ads games in Ray Tracing Ultra HDR without lag. (Oh wait, they don't even have textures like 80s games.)

Same thing every year, people go head over heels for these numbers only to use snapchat, Instagram and internet browsing on their phone.

Now smartphone companies need to think how to fit a small cooling fan inside their smartphone

Those single core improvements look really sweet. Here I am, just chilling with my old flagship and waiting for chips that'll be able to use the 16Kb page file size :v

Hopefully this performance jump means a similar jump in efficiency. I use a Pixel 6 to text, take photos and videos, read my social and RSS feeds, email and watch video and I'm left wondering "Do I even need to upgrade?".

Though, once Android can utilize Linux apps, I think I'll have a change of heart. Would be cool to plug in a high-end Android phone (or tablet) to a portable monitor via USB-C and start programming and using the Linux version of Davinci Resolve to do video editing. Hell, maybe even use Windows apps via Bottles. Fingers crossed the upcoming Tensor chip is somewhat a jump in performance. I can't deal with third party Android; their skins, update delays and limited updates are a nonstarter for me.
