What makes an atom truly incredible is its structure. If an atom were the size of a basketball, the nucleus would be no larger than a pea at its center, while the rest of the atom consists of a vast, mostly empty space occupied by the negatively charged electron cloud. This immense emptiness explains why most of the objects you see are composed largely of empty space, yet feel solid due to the forces between atoms.
