Blair and I wrote this song in my smelly old living room in Putney back in the turn of the 80's to the 90's....it's hazy! We were doing a ton of improvised funk gigs at the time, in the wine bars of Fulham and Clapham, with an audience of Yuppies and It Girls. On drums we had Karl Vandenbosch, who went on to be an integral player in Gorillaz and all things Damon Albarn, and on sax there was Chris Margary, who later joined Simply Red. I myself went on to play keyboards for Tony Hadley for many years, plus numerous other 80's artists, and am now a producer. It's very amusing listening to all the versions of our song that come up...it seems to be chosen VERY often by funk bands from EITHER The Phillipines of Finland....how & why is that? Just watched Dunston checks in! That was my favorite movie. I could watch that watch that movie a million times in one day and never get tired of it. Wished they made a sequel! “Dad!!! there’s a gorilla in the bathroom!!!” 😂😂😂😂

We went dancing last night. The discovery of the night was Have Fun, Go Mad; by Blair. Energetic rap that lends itself surprisingly to ballroom dancing. We mixed it up can do West Coast, FoxTrot, Swing, and believe it or not, Tango! There are times when you just go natural in your own style with a jump and a stamp, or a kick back. I am over 60 years old and loved this song for the dance floor!

I’ve never even heard of “Dunston Checks In”. I just remember this song from the 90’s thinking, “Man, this is the coolest jam ever!”. I purchased this song on a CD whose second and only other track was “We Need More Love” by the Brand New Heavies.
