I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain—and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Az éjnek ismerője voltam én,
ki záporban megy el s hazaoson,
ha kialudt a végső utcafény.

Bámultam szomorú sikátoron.
Éji bakter mellett mentem tovább
sunyt szemmel: én nem magyarázkodom.

Megálltam, némítva lépés zaját,
mikor kiáltás, hirtelen szűnő,
a háztetők felett fülembe szállt,

nem hívó, nem is búcsút üzenő;
s messzebb, nem-földi magasság terén
bolygó óra hirdette: az idő

se-téves, se-igaz, nem holt, s nem él.
Az éjnek ismerője voltam én.

I love how Mr. Perlman recites poetry. He does it so well. Most others are too dry, too unemotional. Whereas Mr. Perlman evokes the emotion and passion into it.

As Vincent, his voice was simply hypnotic!! Love it!! I have the cassette tape I found at a thrift store for 50 cents!! The music from B&B was so wonderful too!!

I have been in love with that voice and the Beast since I was a child! His voice is just comforting, and what woman wouldn't want someone to loves you that much, can feel when you need him, and loves you with his very being...sigh, if only to find that kind of love is almost impossible, and keeping it even harder. I am lucky though, my love doesn't read me poetry, or know if I'm in trouble just by telepathy alone, but he loves me for who I am, not what I look like. He treats me with respect, and praises me for my knowledge as much as he praises my beauty. And although I'm actually 3 inches taller than hin ( it is kinds funny if I wear heels) but he's still my Beast. We've been married for 18 years, so not a bad start!
