Even imagining that I don't have a watch. In no world can I imagine myself thinking "I need to skip forward a bit in the song" and then reaching into my pocket to grab my headphones case rather than my phone

Functionally this does nothing, even if you don't have a watch and the control you want to use isn't right on the headphones themselves

Please don't put a display on a goddamn charging case. Just make the airpods even better. Longer battery life, more comfortable form factor, even better sound and features, improved microphone, maybe some sleep tracking capabilities. We don't need a display on a charging case, if anything a tiny display to act as a battery/charge indicator would be more than enough.

I don't see why everyone wants a display. It uses battery, it can break, it costs more money... a display only causes more problems, will this need another screen protector?

This kinda just feels like an excuse to not separate the airpods out from the settings menu like they did with the watch. Just make a dedicated airpods app for ios and android and call it a day.

Another idea: NFC-mirroring - any audio device could be held against the AirPods case to import syncronization information and access the audio coming out of the paired iPhone.
Example: i'm listening to music - my friend places her Android or iPhone against the AirPods case - after accepting the notification, she would be able to listen in to my music. No pairing process necessary. This would work with other airpod cases.

Control Panel would then show this and i could just tap on the icon to shut off the sync.

My Applewatch Ultra 2 has enough storage in it for me to carry all my music on the watch itself.

My iPhone is 1TB and I don't use it for music, despite that being a better choice.

My biggest problem with Apple products is that I'm forced to use itunes.

I want to be able to DRAG AND DROP music the same way I do for both my car's USBC drives - making it easy to update them, edit them or clone them.

i think this would be a brilliant opportunity for Apple to make great advancements with colour e-ink displays; battery power, album art and volume aren't exactly things that need 120 htz to look good - i think on such a small scale there could be something quite charming about it

If apple does make an LCD display case - which I doubt they will - then I expect the case itself to store music and to be sold in various sizes such as 64GB, 128GB, etc.

I'd buy the 64GB as I only have 32GB of music to date.

I just don't think they'll do it. Do we need yet another display? We already have the watch and the iPhone/ iPad.

Apple is not stupid enough to make a display on a case. The accidental touches alone would make it unusable. Also, who just has their case out, but not their watch or phone?

The display could be cool if they turn them more into a standalone device, so adding it like 32-64gb of storage too and allowing you to download music on them, therefore playing your local music without you phone or mac connectivity
