Now in the blender 3.0 / 2.9 3D space lets show your extrusion of mesh via the extrude tool. This is probably one of the most used tools in blender and it facilitates the building of complex mesh. This video is all about getting started with extruding in blender and how to master accurate precision modelling in blender. A few things we will be covering default face extrusion and how it works with normals, Extrusion along normals and individual face extrusion as well as perpendicular extrusion of multiple faces.

mate, that S button when extruding perpendicular to surface just saved my life...i was going nuts how to do this! thanks!

Wow, I had no idea there was more to the extrude tool. I'm so glad I know about extrude along normals now, it's exactly what I needed. Thanks!

Hey Jonathan, great videos by the way! I've learned so much from you, and have already printed a couple of my own designs using Blender, so THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I was wondering if you would be able to make a playlist with all of your obstacle courses, and perhaps one location to download all of your courses in one, so I can go through them from time to time to refresh the skills. I have the time to stay up on my Blender skills, so being able to fly through a refresher would be awesome!

If someone having trouble with too small extrusion scale at 5:41, try to apply scale for the object.

Not sure if something changed in later Blender versions, but when I tried to follow along with extrude along normals it creates two "separate" extrusions in the directions of the face normals, resulting in an L shape rather than being joined in the way you showed. The "S" key does nothing. It seems to act identically to clicking "Extrude individual faces". **EDIT:** Turns out this occurs if, for some reason, you have faces stuck inside each other. I'm not sure how but I ended up with 90+ vertices, I think from previous operations not being undone quite correctly. Hitting A then M then By Distance merged everything back into one cube and I was able to follow along with the same results you got.

is there a way to manually split edges and faces? I keep the setting off in the tools, auto merge, split edges and faces, because it was a lot of undesirable effects when I need to move something. But sometimes I'd like to add vertexes at the intersection of edges and the tinycad addon behaves unintuitively. right click, tinyCAD, vertex at intersection doesn't add a vertex at the intersection of selected edges like you'd imagine xD.

Hey, I just want to say thank you for these videos. I did the Blender donut tutorial and it didn't cover any of what you've gone over. I'm an aspiring Maker and your videos have taken a ton of the guess-work out of it. If you have a minute, I'd like to ask you a quick question.

I'm trying to make a curved C-track, for example. I can't seem to curve my track without thinning the open center. Is there a quick way you can think of to keep that from thinning out?

Hi Jonathan. Thanks for some great tutorials. At the moment i'm busy designing the usb holder. Things were going swimmingly until i tried dissolving the edges. I found that although some of the edges dissolved without an issue, others refused to budge. Not sure if this was connected with how they were created, or whether i missed something out. Your help would be very much appreciated. Many thanks. Jim Willicott.

Why does my cad transform is on cm not mm when I try to measure things?

So if i buy a CNC for woodworking can it handle both the Cad AND Cam functionality and carve with just as much precision and speed as any other paid software that is especially used for this like Vetric software?

Are you going to cover about double/internal faces?

How far away are we now from being able to design a precise 3d model for printing?
