Growing New Models of Community Support

“We’re doing this to bring hope to the community, to keep people motivated and keep them healthy.” Since the early months of the COVID-19 crisis, Erika Cuellar and the crew at Alma Backyard Farms have provided community members in Compton with 200 free bags full of groceries every two weeks. These bags include veggies grown at Alma’s urban farm, prepared foods and fresh bread from local chefs and bakers, and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables recovered through Food Forward’s Wholesale Recovery Program.
