There is nothing in the Holy Quran that says music is haram. Music is not mentioned in the Holy Quran

"All muslims in the world know that music is haram". Nice way of starting with a lie. A lot of different opinions exist on the matter, from the very strict to the very liberal and they are all grounded in the principles of islamic jursisprudence. As a matter of fact, it is mostly the tiny wahhabi sect who claims that music is haram. They will read quotes from scholars of the past out of context and have you believe that even singing is haram, while never mentioning all the scholars and all the texts that exists in favor of music.

The part about devoting you and everything you do to Islam for your entire life doing good deeds throughout take you to heaven etc. I've not finished the Qu'ran yet (half way through) but I learnt this from an Islamic class a couple of years back so the memories are quite vague...

4. At some marriage occasions the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ordered Sahaba to play some music and said that the difference between a marriage and zina is music (which serves as an announcement of that marriage)

I don't listen to music since May. Life without music is very peacefull and relaxt. I noticed that music is everywhere and it controls everyone! Like the hijabisister said, I can't control my enviroment around me. :'(

Saying that music in general is bad/haram is like saying this:''People have drowned and died in water and water has destroyed many homes, lives.etc. Therefore, water is evil!''

Does that make sense?

Sister our religion is not strict at all, I have learnt lots since I made this video but however as to your question I wouldn't advice you to listen to music as you will still think of music and hear in your head through prayers and that wrong.
What I suggest is listen to Nasheeds with music in them and then slowley work your way to nasheeds without music, Take your time with it aswel :) If you want I can give you a list of nasheeds in your inbox :)

That's exactly how i feel about music being haram. I'm not going to lie i use to lisen to alot of explicit music but nowadays i listen to music with a positive message. Music that makes me feel good and has a message like for instance Talib kweli.

Yeah I really don't understand why people say it's haram to listen to people like Sami Yusuf just because there's music in the background. It makes no sense to me. If there were dirty lyrics, then I would understand why we would have to stay away from that type of music. But if we're listening to songs about our prophet (pbuh) and Allah (swt) that have music in the background, then I don't see why that's haram.

Yea I think I understand what you're saying, and I agree. I guess it's just up to the person in the end. For me, listening to those nasheeds (even though I know who the artists are) is just a nice reminder for me of Allah (swt) and our prophet (pbuh). Like I said, it's all up to the person and what their intentions are. Salaam.

I am a practicing Muslim, I pray, I pay zakat, I fast for Ramadan, and I listen to music. Personally I do not think that music is intrinsically sinful, I think it is the message put into some types of music that are sinful. The quote from the Qur'an talks about men who use music to "mislead people from the path of Allah". Personally I can't see how listening to music takes me away from Islam. Also, Sister Nash's point was that what's in music isn't real...so should I also not read fiction novels?
