GUIDE HAND ISSUES? FIX YOUR SHOOTING HAND FIRST | NBA Shooting Coach Dave Love

You SHOULD want to get your guide hand off the ball. If it pushes the ball, since it's on the side of the ball it will push the ball off line.

Now, that doesn't mean you CAN'T make shots like that... It just means it will be harder.

My advice... always try to REDUCE the amount that you push with the GUIDE HAND.

But to do that, you need to get your shooting hand UNDER THE MIDDLE OF THE BALL.

See, the two hands work together. We want to avoid each hand pushing the ball away from the hoop in opposite directions, and want to try to get to ONE hand pushing the ball towards the hoop. But as you learn to do that, focus on the position of your shooting hand first!!

Can I shoot from above my right shoulder. Easier to get hand under the ball.
