Had you chosen to start an argument with the Jovial Conrarian, this is what would have happened. I'm sharing this because it was one of the funniest things I read in FL and I regret not writing it down fully, but I still remember this:

You offhandedly whisper that it can't possibly get any worse. The Jovial Contrarian says that it will in fact *only* get worse. You say that since things are already on their way to ending badly, the sitiation is already the worst it could be. He retorts condescendingly that the inevitability of things being the worst doesn't change the fact that right now they still haven't gotten to that point. When you are coming up with a response, Mr Fires screams at both of you to shut up, and then the Futurist escapes.

So goddamn funny. I am beyond sad that I forgot to make an echo of that.
