22:20 oh, this is a funny glitch.
it's actually unpausing the game when you select an artifact, and due to stacking menus (cuz of killing the boss like 10+ times in a single frame), you can get a menu onscreen while the game is unpaused. This is what causes "the darkness of upgrade purgatory".

My theory is starting strong is bugged. That's why your towers lost a bunch of damage after reloading. They keep the attack speed until you reload.

Be happy you were $200 short of AoW. I've had it twice and both times were during races/boss rushes. And both times I had to do what you did with Giga and WLP and quit the attempt. With homing projectiles and increased duration and bouncing, it makes so many projectiles that bounce near the enterence that it just moves from by frame. It doesn't matter how fast your PC is either. RTX 4090, 13900K 6200mhz ram and it's still a slide show. And in CHIMPS there is nothing you can do. It's just a dead attempt because it would take hours or days to finish. I think it's Vortex and/or Blasts essence. Fast attacking high projectiles tier 5s just break it.
