Jarred Olson: Introduction to Serverless Architecture

Abstract:

Are you worried about the scalability and availability of your application? Do you find you or your team spending a lot of time deploying and managing servers? With buzzwords like “Serverless”, “BaaS”, “FaaS”, and “cloud" getting thrown around almost interchangeably it’s easy to have some confusion on what “Serverless" really means. In this talk we’ll discuss these terms and show how a Serverless Architecture can help solve some of your problems. Lastly we’ll go through an example using AWS services (specifically Lambada and API Gateway).

The bridge at the start doesn't really work as an example of bad architecture. In fact it was great engineering - this is the bridge during a heavy earthquake and it survived. Now you may not think it was so great when you get hit by the earth quake while on it and get pushed over the borders, but anywhere near the bridge on the ground was safe and if it would have been instead so hard that it wouldn't move it simply would have crashed in the process killing anyone on it and under it.
