Into the Feather River Canyon

This is one of our first productions from 2009. Union Pacific trains rolling through the incredibly scenic Feather River Canyon from Oroville to Portola, California.

While on location in the spring and summer of 2009, the Feather River Canyon was busy with a nearly constant parade of stack trains in addition to auto racks and manifest trains. The following year would see a significant reduction of traffic after UP re-routed their intoermodal trains over nearby Donner Pass.

In addition to the UP, BNSF trackage rights trains also use the line as part of their Inside Gateway route, adding to th evariety of trains. We will visit one of the most recognized railroad landmarks in the world: the famous Keddie Wye suspended above the canyon. See the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola and the UP 844 steam locomotive making a special appearance.

Nicely done. I am fortunate to live within a couple hours drive of the FRC and go camping there regularly. Nothing like hearing train in the canyon in the middle of the night. The world awakens for about five minutes, then back to solitude. Thank you for the video.

I grew up in the Mts of W.Va. in the 40 and 50 and was able to see all the steam trains. Now I can enjoy u tube and all the long trains . There are several things I dont understand. BNSF and the #.of the different engins. I do enjoy watching the trains and counting the cars. Thanks for the videos I stay up late at night.

I’m so thankful you released this!! I used to watch it as a kid - I loved trains (and still do) and would binge watch this and other productions you’ve made almost every day 😅 This was my childhood, thank you so much for this, I love it!

always good quality. My favorite part who else #844 herself. Reminds me of my childhood. I use to watch #844 on Thomas each week and my favorite scene was in the credits of #844 going through Feather River Canyon between Tunnel 18 and Honeymoon Tunnels and the scene at the end where she rolls across the northern California plains into Portola. Play the song City of New Orleans in the background, grab some food and you got a chase to relive my memories. Thank You 7 Idea this was a good video.

When i was younger during the Western Pacific days i jumped a train at the Keddie Wye and knew by the switch it is a northbound that is coming and it was a scenic trip to Klamath Falls, Oregon, i jumped in a box car that had hobos in it, they were kind of intimidated by me as they can tell I'm just a weekend adventurer but they got use to me, i was going to walk into town and find a hotel but i stayed in a boxcar for the night even thou i was running out of food, i was only carrying chips and candy with me and a few drinks. The next morning jumped a southbound train, and it was going to fast to jump off at the Keddie Wye so down the canyon i went, i spent the night in Orville, CA at a rescue mission with the hobos and really felt out of place so had dinner than breakfast then jumped another train in morning, this one was a west bound and going to fast to jump off so did the Williams Loop then got off in Portola where it stopped then hitch hiked back to Quincy where i was going to Feather River College at the time, great adventure, the only time i jumped a train!

Sit back and relax is right! What a great intro, I don't know if you intend these to be visually-descriptive, but I really appreciate it for when I'm doing work and have your videos going on in the background, and I feel like they've got to be pretty decent for the visually impaired as well. Cheers!
