How Kashmir Became Muslim | Al Muqaddimah

The valley of Kashmir is a region to the north-west of the Indian Subcontinent. It is sandwiched between Pakistan, India and China. All three of which claim parts or whole of Kashmir. Pakistan and India specifically have a fierce and bloody rivalry over it. It goes back to the partition in 1947 when the Hindu ruler of Kashmir sided with India even though, the majority of the population of Kashmir was and remains Muslim. So, how did Islam find its way to this remote valley?

Amongst all the videos that we see online on Kashmir, this one really does justice to the region - unbiased, unprovocative, you have not taken sides, which most other commentators do. Kashmir was a golden kingdom under Laladitya I . His empire was from Bengal to Caspian sea. It was also Hindu.

* The etymology of Kashmir is likely traced to the Hindu saint Kashyapa.
* Kashmiris are known to have worshipped the sun god Surya, with many temples still standing in the region to prove as a testament to this
* Rinchan's first choice was to convert to Hinduism, but was rejected by a popular priest due to his Tibetan ancestry. It's a tantalising what if.
