Surfing the Amazon River’s Endless Wave

The indigenous people who live along the Amazon River in Brazil have a word for the tidal bore that rushes in from the Atlantic Ocean. They call the wave Pororoca, which translates to “big roar.” You can actually hear it coming. That’s how loud and powerful it is. It’s risky to surf the Pororoca because it is full of debris as well as snakes and piranha. But surfer Serginho Laus has mastered what is one of the longest waves in the world.

I thought salt water was more dense that's why you float

Wouldn't higher density help you with floating?

A long follow drone shot would have been epic.

At 1:07 he mistakenly says fresh water is more dense so you don't float as much. The opposite is actually true. Sea water is more dense, and you float better in denser water.

I am scared about the water you can't see one cm. I would never go one step in this brown soup.

1:05 Wrong, the water is obviously less dense. That's why you float less. (Dead Sea = lots of Salt, you float more). Or am I wrong here?

Yeah, he may be a good surfer, but he’s got his science wrong. You DO float more in the ocean because SALT WATER is more dense. FRESH WATER is less dense so you don’t float as much.
