Domestic cats are notoriously averse to baths. But a Turkish breed known as the "Van Cat" is known for its love of swimming. And a local breeding center offers special pools for these felines. The Van Cat House is making sure young kittens learn how to swim.

I like how the only footage of the cats in the water is them frantically trying to get out. Cool vid though

angora and van are different, but they are from same ancestors. so in term of looks, body shape and color, they are mostly same. but they have different major dna and personality.
angora hate water, while van loves it. but since the van today don't hunt fish any more because they live in human houses, most of them don't swim anymore, or even hate swimming, but still love playing with water

Interesting that all the cats are hastening to get OUT of the pool.

I bet the Broadway musical play CATS is a real hit in Turkey!

Very impressive! Cats that really dig the water! 🙀😻

I was staggered at how people treat cats so wonderfully in Turkey. They have a more natural community relationship than the selfish business minded individual pet ownership model we have in the West. Everyone seems to care and contribute to their care, protection and welfare. It’s very civilised, we in the U.K. like to think we love our animals better than most. But I’ve never believed that, the way pet breeders and the whole grubby and greedy business around it operates. There’s a whole Pandora’s box there, and it’s been opened a few times making news headlines.

they seem to love to swim... towards the nearest pool exit.

Funny how I haven’t seen one cat voluntarily go in the water. God bless the Turkish people. They want to believe so badly that their cats love swimming, when all cats instinctively swim in a life or death situation. Absolutely gorgeous cats though. I plan on getting a kitten and water training it. A cat that loves water would be such a beautiful thing🐈

I have a Turkish angora and he gets a full bath and groom once a month. He runs in and out of the shower when I am in their and hangs off the curtain playing with the water.

i was named after the city and lake Van in Turkey because it’s a city close to northern Kurdistan, and i just found out that there’s a whole breed of cats out there named after it! made my day:)

Lol Greeks tried to patent this cat as theirs too xD - you know what Europeans and Americans call Greek Yogurt is Turkish lol! The word itself means Condensed in Turkish. They also tried to patent baklava (it literally means pistachiopie in Arabic) and kebab (literally barbecue in Arabic). All the comments below about Kurds and Armenians are posted by Greek trolls between, so just ignore. All Middle Easterns, Kurdish and Armenians love Turks 💓
